5 Best Saw Palmetto Supplements for GLP-1 Hair Loss

Most women on a GLP-1 don't know this, but saw palmetto alone won't stop your hair loss.

Saw palmetto is real β€” it's one of the only natural ingredients shown to quiet DHT, the hormone that thins your follicles in and after menopause. It's even the main ingredient in Nutrafol. But on a GLP-1, the real theft happens in your liver: burning fat takes a mineral called sulfur, and your liver takes yours first. Every strand of your hair is held together by sulfur β€” but to your body, hair is not a priority. Survival comes first, so your hair is last in line and gets the scraps. And almost none of the trending saw palmetto products contain the one ingredient that puts sulfur back: L-Cystine.

I'm 62, on Zepbound, and when my hair started coming out in clumps, everyone told me saw palmetto would save it. So I ordered the 5 most popular ones and put them to the test β€” only one actually worked. SPOILER: Keravive Hair Priority Complex was my #1 pick. It's the only formula that combines saw palmetto's DHT support with a real dose of L-Cystine β€” the exact sulfur your hair is built from, trusted by women in Europe for 47 years. It's now the only hair supplement I trust.

1.  KERAVIVE HAIR PRIORITY COMPLEX

Keravive Hair Priority Complex blew me away, and it was my favorite by far, earning 5 stars β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…. Within a few weeks, the clumps in my drain were gone and my brush held a fraction of the hair it used to. By month two, I had baby hairs sticking up all along my part. My sister is on Mounjaro and takes it too β€” same story.

The most important part: this is the ONLY formula on this list that contains L-Cystine β€” the exact form of sulfur your hair is built from. It's the same active ingredient behind Pantogar, the hair loss treatment women in Europe have trusted for 47 years. That means Keravive covers both sides of the problem: saw palmetto quiets DHT (the menopause side), and L-Cystine gives your body enough sulfur for your liver AND your hair (the GLP-1 side). Not one other saw palmetto product I tested does that.

It's also clearly built for women like us. The keratin in it comes already broken down, so it absorbs even with a GLP-1 stomach β€” no heavy digestion, no nausea. And the label checks every box: GMP certified, clinically studied ingredients, GLP-1 compatible.

Another thing I love: the price. The famous hair supplements charge $80–90 a month β€” and still don't contain a single milligram of L-Cystine. Keravive costs a fraction of that.

Finally, I love all the great reviews on Keravive's website β€” hundreds of women on GLP-1s telling the same story as mine.

And there's zero risk in trying it: they give you a 90-day money-back guarantee. If your shower drain doesn't look different, you get every penny back.

This is what my sister and I take every morning, and it earned the #1 spot.

2.  Nutrafol Women

If you've spent even one evening researching hair loss, you've met Nutrafol. It's sold at Sephora, dermatologists recommend it, and yes β€” its main DHT-fighting ingredient is saw palmetto.

Full transparency: I wanted Nutrafol to be the answer. It's a serious, well-made formula, and for hormonal thinning around menopause it has real results behind it.

But here's what $88 a month bought me: a formula designed years before GLP-1s existed. There's saw palmetto for the DHT side β€” and not one milligram of L-Cystine for the sulfur your liver is taking. Ask around in any GLP-1 group and you'll hear the same sentence I lived: "I tried Nutrafol and it didn't help."

They do have great reviews, though.

Because of this β€” and that price β€” Nutrafol lands at #2 on my list.

3.  Havasu Nutrition Saw Palmetto Women's

Havasu keeps it simple: saw palmetto plus 5,000 mcg of biotin, in a bottle actually made for women. I appreciated that β€” and the price won't hurt anybody.

The positives: it's a focused little formula, the reviews are solid, and if biotin worked for GLP-1 hair loss, this would be a bargain.

But that's the catch: most of us have already mega-dosed biotin. I was taking three times this dose before Zepbound and my drain didn't care. Biotin is a B vitamin β€” it isn't sulfur, and it can't replace what your liver is taking. So you get the DHT half covered, a vitamin you've already tried, and nothing for the actual GLP-1 problem.

Because of this, Havasu lands at #3 on my list.

4.  Nature's Craft Women's Saw Palmetto

This one is pink, it's cheap, and the label promises a lot: drive, energy, mood, hair, skin, nails β€” plus maca root and biotin on top of the saw palmetto.

The positives: 90 capsules for the price of a lunch, and the reviews are perfectly decent.

But I've learned to be careful with labels that promise everything. Spreading that many promises across a $15 bottle means small doses of a little bit of everything β€” and once again, zero L-Cystine, zero sulfur, zero thought given to what a GLP-1 does to your liver. It quiets the DHT thief and leaves the cupboard empty.

Because of this, it lands at #4 on my list.

5.  Nature's Craft Saw Palmetto Extra Strength

Here's something I noticed when the green bottle arrived: it's the same company as #4, with a different outfit on. And this version isn't really aimed at us at all β€” the label says "hair health and urinary support," which tells you who this formula was originally built for.

The positives: 100 capsules, a 100-day supply, very cheap per day. As plain saw palmetto goes, it's honest.

But it's a generic, one-ingredient saw palmetto for everybody and nobody β€” no women's formula, nothing for menopause, and certainly nothing for GLP-1 hair loss. No L-Cystine here either.

Because of this, it rounds out the list at #5.

And the Winner is…

The winner, by far, is Keravive Hair Priority Complex! Saw palmetto for the DHT side, a real dose of L-Cystine for the GLP-1 side, keratin that absorbs even on a slowed stomach β€” it's the only formula on this list actually built for women like us. And don't forget β€” you can still get 10% OFF everything thanks to their SECRET sale with code SECRET10.

I've been on Nutrafol for 6 months and I'm still shedding. Is it really worth switching? I hate wasting more money.

Pam I was exactly where you are. Nutrafol is a good product for regular hormonal thinning, but there's no L-Cystine in it, and that's the piece us GLP-1 girls are missing. For me the difference showed up in the shower around week 3. And Keravive costs way less, so switching actually saved me money every month.

Can I take this with Mounjaro AND my thyroid pill? I take levothyroxine in the morning.

Good question Linda. It's GLP-1 compatible and there's nothing in it that interferes with the medication. For thyroid pills, the general rule is to keep them 30 to 60 minutes away from any supplement, so I'd just take your levo first thing and Keravive with breakfast. And show the label to your pharmacist if you want total peace of mind.

My endocrinologist says this is temporary shedding and I should just be patient. Now I don't know what to do.

Janet I got the same speech, almost word for word. Here's the thing though. As long as you're on the shots, your liver keeps taking the sulfur your hair needs. Being patient doesn't feed your follicles. I waited 5 months and I regret every one of them. Giving your body back what the medication uses up is not being impatient, it's being smart.

How fast did you see something? My 40th class reunion is in November and I'm dreading the photos.

For me the shedding slowed around week 3 and the baby hairs along my part showed up around month 2. November gives you a real runway. And with the 90 day money back guarantee there's no risk, if it does nothing you get your money back. Go enjoy that reunion!
