5 Best Pumpkin Seed Oil Supplements for GLP-1 Hair Loss

Most women on a GLP-1 don't know this, but pumpkin seed oil alone won't stop your hair loss.

Pumpkin seed oil is real — it quiets DHT, the hormone that thins your follicles in and after menopause. But on a GLP-1, the real theft happens in your liver: burning fat takes a mineral called sulfur, and your liver takes yours first. Every strand of your hair is held together by sulfur — but to your body, hair is not a priority. Survival comes first, so your hair is last in line and gets the scraps. And almost none of the trending pumpkin seed oil products contain the one ingredient that puts sulfur back: L-Cystine.

I'm 62, on Zepbound, and when my hair started coming out in clumps, everyone told me pumpkin seed oil would save it. So I ordered the 5 most popular ones and put them to the test — only one actually worked. SPOILER: Keravive Hair Priority Complex was my #1 pick. It's the only formula that combines pumpkin seed oil's DHT support with a real dose of L-Cystine — the exact sulfur your hair is built from, trusted by women in Europe for 47 years. It's now the only hair supplement I trust.

1.  KERAVIVE HAIR PRIORITY COMPLEX

Keravive Hair Priority Complex blew me away, and it was my favorite by far, earning 5 stars ★★★★★. Within a few weeks, the clumps in my drain were gone and my brush held a fraction of the hair it used to. By month two, I had baby hairs sticking up all along my part. My sister is on Mounjaro and takes it too — same story.

The most important part: this is the ONLY formula on this list that contains L-Cystine — the exact form of sulfur your hair is built from. It's the same active ingredient behind Pantogar, the hair loss treatment women in Europe have trusted for 47 years. That means Keravive covers both sides of the problem: pumpkin seed oil quiets DHT (the menopause side), and L-Cystine gives your body enough sulfur for your liver AND your hair (the GLP-1 side). Not one other pumpkin seed oil product I tested does that.

It's also clearly built for women like us. The keratin in it comes already broken down, so it absorbs even with a GLP-1 stomach — no heavy digestion, no nausea. And the label checks every box: GMP certified, clinically studied ingredients, GLP-1 compatible.

Another thing I love: the price. The famous hair supplements charge $80–90 a month — and still don't contain a single milligram of L-Cystine. Keravive costs a fraction of that.

Finally, I love all the great reviews on Keravive's website — hundreds of women on GLP-1s telling the same story as mine.

And there's zero risk in trying it: they give you a 90-day money-back guarantee. If your shower drain doesn't look different, you get every penny back.

This is what my sister and I take every morning, and it earned the #1 spot.

2.  NOW Foods Pumpkin Seed Oil

If you've ever browsed a supplement aisle, you know NOW Foods. They've been making no-frills supplements since 1968, and there's probably one of their bottles in your cabinet right now.

Full transparency: this was the first one I ordered. It's the cheapest per softgel, and NOW is a brand I already trusted.

The positives: it's real, cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil — 1,000 mg softgels, no fillers, no games — and a 200-count bottle costs about the same as a pizza. If all you need is the DHT side (say you're in menopause but NOT on a GLP-1), this is an honest little product.

But that's also the problem: it's one ingredient. There's no L-Cystine in it — no sulfur at all — and it was never designed for GLP-1 hair loss in the first place. It quiets the DHT thief, but it leaves the cupboard empty. I gave it a fair six weeks, and my shower drain told the same story every single morning.

They do have great reviews, though.

Because of this, NOW Foods lands at #2 on my list.

3.  Micro Ingredients Pumpkin Seed Oil with Saw Palmetto

This one looked like the smart buy: pumpkin seed oil AND saw palmetto together, 300 softgels in the bag, cold-pressed, non-GMO. Two hair ingredients instead of one — more is more, right?

The positives: the value is genuinely good. Micro Ingredients gives you big, generous counts for the price, the quality looks clean, and the reviews are solid.

But here's what I learned while researching: saw palmetto does the exact same job as pumpkin seed oil. It's another DHT blocker — same mechanism, same target. So this bag is two ingredients doing one job. You're not covering more of your hair loss; you're covering the same half of it twice. And meanwhile, the GLP-1 side — your liver taking the sulfur your hair is built from — gets nothing. No L-Cystine here either.

If DHT were your only problem, this would be a fine pick. But if you're on a GLP-1, doubling the guards on one door doesn't help when the thief is already inside.

Because of this, it lands at #3 on my list.

4.  Horbäach Pumpkin Seed Oil

I hadn't heard of Horbäach before this little experiment, but their pitch is easy to understand: a mega-dose. 3,000 mg of pumpkin seed oil per serving — triple what most brands give you — at a price that won't scare anybody.

The positives: it's cold-pressed, non-GMO, gluten-free, and if you judge supplements by milligrams per dollar, this one wins the spreadsheet.

But here's the thing I kept coming back to: 3,000 mg of pumpkin seed oil is just a bigger dose of the same half-fix. If 1,000 mg quiets DHT, triple that doesn't quiet it three times harder — and it still doesn't put back one milligram of the sulfur your liver is taking from your hair. More of the wrong lever is still the wrong lever. No L-Cystine here either.

The oil seems perfectly decent. It's just answering a question that women on a GLP-1 aren't asking.

Because of this, Horbäach ranks at #4 on my list.

5.  Carlyle Pumpkin Seed Oil

By the time the Carlyle bottle arrived, I honestly felt like I'd already opened it. Different label, but read the back and it's the same story as Horbäach, almost word for word: 3,000 mg per serving, cold pressed, non-GMO, gluten free.

The positives: nothing wrong with it. You get 200 softgels for a very fair price, and the reviews are perfectly decent. As plain pumpkin seed oil goes, it does what it says.

But that's exactly the lesson of this whole experiment: it doesn't matter whose label is on the bottle. One thousand milligrams or three thousand, brand A or brand B — plain pumpkin seed oil only ever covers the DHT half of your hair loss. Not one of these bottles contains L-Cystine, and not one of them was built for what a GLP-1 does to your liver — and to your hair.

Because of this, Carlyle rounds out the list at #5.

And the Winner is…

The winner, by far, is Keravive Hair Priority Complex! Pumpkin seed oil for the DHT side, a real dose of L-Cystine for the GLP-1 side, keratin that absorbs even on a slowed stomach — it's the only formula on this list actually built for women like us. And don't forget — you can still get 10% OFF everything thanks to their SECRET sale with code SECRET10.

Is it safe to take with Zepbound? I'm nervous about mixing anything with my shots. I read somewhere that biotin can mess with blood sugar?

Great question Debbie. That's actually one of the reasons Keravive won my list. The label is GLP-1 compatible and there's nothing in it that interferes with the medication. My sister and I are both on our shots and we've had zero issues. If you want extra peace of mind, bring the label to your pharmacist, it's all clinically studied ingredients.

My doctor told me this is just telogen effluvium and it will grow back on its own once my weight stabilizes. Should I really be taking anything?

Susan I heard the exact same thing, almost word for word. Here's the problem with "wait it out". As long as you're on the medication, your liver keeps taking the sulfur your hair needs. Waiting doesn't feed your follicles, it just gives the shedding more time. That's why I wanted a formula with L-Cystine in it, you're actually giving your body back what the medication is using up. Waiting is what I did for 5 months and I regret it.

I want to try it but honestly I gag on big pills since starting Mounjaro. Everything makes me queasy now. How big are these?

Totally understand, my stomach changed completely on Zepbound too. It's 2 regular capsules a day, not horse pills. And the keratin in the formula comes already broken down, that's the part that usually causes the heavy feeling with hair supplements. No nausea for me and I have a very touchy stomach now. I take mine with breakfast.

How long before you saw a difference? My daughter's wedding is in October and I'm panicking about photos.

For me the shedding slowed way down around week 3, that was the first sign. The little baby hairs along my part showed up around month 2. Everyone's different, but October gives you a real window. And they have a 90 day money back guarantee, so if it does nothing for you, you get your money back. Congratulations on the wedding by the way!
